Adsorption of nitrogen dioxide and nitrogen mixtures on Graphene

Utham Suresh
Department of Chemistry, University of Tennessee

This page shows visualizations of the adsorption of nitrogen dioxide on graphene substrate at 200K .These structures were created by Utham Suresh in the Chemistry Department at the University of Tennessee.

The need to limit the concentration of nitrogen dioxide in the air is imminent these days due to its drastic effects on human health as well as on the environment. This report describes the possible implementation of graphene as a substrate for the detection of nitrogen dioxide in air. As in practical situations, the targeted molecules are present in mixture and the air as we know is composed 78% by nitrogen, we are verifying the physical adsorption of nitrogen dioxide and nitrogen mixtures on graphene substrate at different temperatures. To approach this study, the equilibrium properties were computed using the method of Molecular Dynamics simulation(MD).1
