Study of Ammonia Interactions with Carboxyl Groups

Kaycee Gass
Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Tennessee

This page shows the visualization of ammonia and benzoic acid at 900C.

Experimental work has shown that high temperature ammonia gas treatments of graphite felt increases the surface area of the material. In order to better understand the mechanism, ammonia and benzoic acid were simulated to observe the interaction of ammonia and carboxyl groups that are found on graphite.
